Nutrition

Nutrition and Health

Proper nutrition plays a key role in keeping a healthy body, mind and spirit.

There are six main classes of nutrients that the body needs:

  • carbohydrates
  • proteins
  • fats
  • vitamins
  • minerals
  • water
It is important to consume these six nutrients on a daily basis in an effort to build and maintain healthy bodily function.  Poor health can be caused by an imbalance of nutrients, either an excess or deficiency, which, in turn, affects bodily functions cumulatively.

Our ancestors did not have access to the amount of refined and processed foods that many of us eat today.  There is research that shows that eating large amounts of processed foods does not usually provide adequate nutrition.  If you eat nutritionally all of the time, you might get all or most of the vitamins and minerals that you need from your food.  Since this is often difficult, you may want to consider the use of vitamin supplements, if you haven't already.
